This bill would prohibit a person who publishes criminal record information, as defined, via print or electronic means from soliciting or accepting a fee or other consideration to remove, correct, or modify that information, as specified. It would be my guess that this lackluster bill will pass.
I agree that it is lackluster. While the extortion is a serious issue, it is no more serious than this information being readily available to ANYONE online. The state itself is not allowed to distribute this information generally, yet we allow private individuals to post it online in order to make money. How is there any logic to this? Why is this bill not addressing that — that is the real issue. That is the issue that creates the situation for the extortion.
Obviously, our government hasn’t shown any interest in protecting it’s content from these unscrupulous scoundrels.
So…
I’m inclined to think there’s a possibility to prevent all of these shame based sites from using government copyrighted material they’re gleaming from citizen supported web pages so free and easy.
How?
Any owner of copyrighted material can demand removal of their content with a:

Perhaps I’m thinking wrong but are we not owners of this content we are paying tremendous amounts of money to collect, update, post and etc. through our tax dollars?
